With school starting the first week of September, the next couple of weeks are the easiest time to get your kids (or yourself, if you’re heading back to campus) in for a checkup—before schedules fill up with homework, activities, and everything else fall brings.
Why Now Is the Right Time
Once school is back in session, after-school appointment slots get booked up fast, and small issues (a cavity, a loose filling) are much easier to catch and treat before they turn into a mid-October toothache during exam week. A quick August checkup means one less thing to worry about once routines pick up.
For Younger Kids
A routine cleaning and exam now catches anything that developed over a summer of popsicles, pool days, and less structured brushing routines. If your child plays a fall sport, this is also the time to ask about a custom mouthguard—a properly fitted one protects far better than the generic kind, and it’s one less thing to remember once practices start.
For Students Heading to UW or Laurier
If you’re a returning or incoming student, it’s worth getting a checkup before move-in—dental visits are easy to keep putting off once classes start. We work around student schedules, and if you’re new to the area, we’re an easy walk or short drive from both campuses.
Thinking About Straightening Before the School Year?
Late summer is also a popular time for teens to start Invisalign—treatment can run quietly in the background of the school year without the visibility of traditional braces. We’ll have a full breakdown of what that looks like in an upcoming post, but if it’s already on your mind, feel free to ask us at your child’s checkup.
Book your family’s back-to-school checkups now, while there’s still room on the calendar.
